Policy Decoded: BlackBerry’s Marjorie Dickman Interviews U.S. Congressman Jim Langevin

This year’s BlackBerry® Security Summit featured a Fireside Chat between BlackBerry Chief Government Affairs and Public Policy Officer Marjorie Dickman and U.S. Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI). The pair delved into cybersecurity legislation poised to become law in 2021, and the potential implications of these laws for a broad range of enterprise security decisionmakers.

The session is a must-watch for CISOs, CIOs, IT executives, and corporate government relations experts for a compelling inside Washington view on the most significant recent cybersecurity policy developments. These include President Biden’s Cybersecurity Executive Order, likely new cybersecurity incident reporting and notification rules, and cybersecurity provisions in both the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

Representative Langevin is one of America’s most preeminent national security and cybersecurity leaders. He is a senior member of the House Armed Services and House Homeland Security Committees and one of four members of Congress appointed to the Cyberspace Solarium Commission (CSC). In the interview, Congressman Langevin highlighted how cybersecurity is now “top of mind in Congress” and has “everybody’s attention,” representing a marked change for the U.S. Congress and government.

Citing recent cyber attacks such as Colonial Pipeline, JBS Foods, SolarWinds, and Microsoft Exchange, Langevin challenged Congress to do more to address America’s cybersecurity vulnerabilities, including bolstering the cybersecurity of the federal government and U.S. critical infrastructure, and deepening public-private partnerships. The Congressman also shared insights on the establishment of an Office of the National Cyber Director at the White House and federal agency migration to a Zero Trust architecture.

In a year of unprecedented malicious hacks targeting public and private networks, where cybersecurity catapulted to the top of public policy agendas in Washington, and around the world, this unique BlackBerry Security Summit 2021 session offers valuable insights for cybersecurity decisionmakers.
