Eddie Murphy’s 1988 comedy Coming to America tells the story of a rich and powerful African prince who embarks on a journey to find a bride who will love him regardless of his social status and wealth. Produced at perhaps the height of Murphy’s popularity, the film became a financial and fan hit, with a legacy so powerful that the sequel, Coming 2 America, is highly anticipated, despite an over 30-year gap between flicks.

Canadian Whiskey brand Crown Royal, in partnership with the film set to be debut on Amazon in March, has now released a limited-edition bottle featuring themed packaging. The beautiful set also features a distinguished jacquard bag designed by the movie’s costume designer, Oscar-winner Ruth E. Carter. The box features a regal fabric worthy of Prince Akeem across the front, while the distinctive bag features gold and light purple that’s as much Zamunda as it is Crown Royal.

Carter is the first Black person to win an Oscar for costume design, as she won for her work on the seminal comic book movie Black Panther, which, like Coming to America, features a talented roster of Black actors that tells the story of a prince from a fictional and prosperous African nation. Carter has also worked on Murphy’s 2019 movie Dolomite Is My Name and the period piece Selma. She has also been Oscar-nominated for her work on the films Malcolm X and Amistad.
