Calgarians pay their respects on Remembrance Day

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – As the eleventh hour chimed, Calgarians stood to remember those who paid the ultimate price.

Thousands attended Remembrance Day ceremonies across the city, including one at the Hangar Flight Museum.

That ceremony began with the national anthem and acknowledgment of several dignitaries and government officials, including the Premier and a local City Councillor.

A member of the 88-Lynx Airdrie Air Cadets squadron recited the well-known poem, ‘In Flanders Fields.’

Speeches and prayers were also given by Rev. Rosemary Bishop and Honourary Col. John Melbourne.

After observing the moment of silence, wreaths were laid by a cenotaph honouring those who lost their lives during the Second World War.

Ceremonies were also held at the Field of Crosses on Memorial Drive, Central Memorial Park, Battalion Park, and Fort Calgary.
