City looking to honour great Calgarians with unnamed parks

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – If you are looking for a way to honour a Calgarian who has made an impact on you or your community, the City would like to know.

Spokesperson Robert Lewis says a lot of parks and green spaces are looking for names, and the Mayor’s office wants to attach notable names to places as part of Calgary’s 125 celebrations.

“Naming of a municipal asset is considered to be a significant honour. It’s pretty much the highest thing the city can do.”

MORE DETAILS

Nominees need to be retired or deceased, and applications have to include a letter of permission from the community association where the park is located. Two reference letters also must be submitted attesting to the greatness of the person.

The parks will have a sign installed indicating their namesake’s contribution to Calgary.

Nominations can be submitted to Municipal.Naming@calgary.ca. The deadline is December 31, 2019.
