The story of Canada’s WWI documentary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Canada’s first-ever feature-length documentary film with sound was about the First World War.

Released in 1934, the movie Lest We Forget was made using footage from several Canadian cameramen who followed troops through training and combat.

The film also used graphics, simulated battle scenes and news footage.

Several Canadian battles including Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele are featured in the movie.

“Of Passchendaele, men remember only the mud, the interminable shelling and bombing and the heartbreaking attacks,” the film reads.

The full documentary is available on the Library and Archives Canada YouTube page.
