Towson University Students meet potential employers at the Spring Mega Job and Internship Fair
TU students will have a chance to meet with over 200 employers at the annual Spring Mega Job and Internship fair on Friday, March 29 inside SECU Arena.

Every spring the Career Center invites over 200 employers to SECU Arena to meet TU students seeking to launch careers or land internships. The 2019 Mega Job and Internship Fair takes place on Friday, March 29, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Initially held in smaller rooms like West Village Commons and the Chesapeake Rooms in the University Union, the fair has now grown to encompass a basketball arena.

For Lorie Logan-Bennett, the transition to SECU Arena enables the Career Center to invite more potential employers to interact with students in a spacious, higher-energy venue.

“Our ability to host twice as many employers means we’ve been able to double the opportunities available to our students,” Logan-Bennett says. “Employers love the arena, and students welcome the opportunity to meet with so many hiring organizations.”

This year the Career Center is offering several events designed to get students ready to meet with employers. They include:

  • The Career Center Tie Bar, where students can make a food donation to TU’s FoodShare program and receive a free tie to help them dress professionally for job interviews.
  • Employer Resume Reviews, where students can have their resumes reviewed by industry professionals from Sherwin-Williams, TEKsystems, Fastenal, and Unum.

“Being able to articulate to an employer what you’re interested in and why they should hire you is often not an easy task,” Logan-Bennett says. “Providing students with the chance to receive feedback on their resume, develop and practice their 30-second pitch, dress professionally, and clarify career direction are all aimed to get students ready.”

Along with workshops and preparation, the Career Center is embracing TU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by presenting the Diversity Works networking event on Thursday, March 28, at the South Campus Pavilion.

The event provides an opportunity for TU’s underrepresented students to connect with over 30 employers who have expressly voiced a commitment to hiring, mentoring and developing a diverse workforce.

“This unique event encourages students to build connections and learn more about the ways organizations support talented and diverse employees,” Logan-Bennett says.  “We’re very excited to be partnering with several Alumni Alliances for this spring’s event in an effort to further broaden the networks of students, alumni and participating employers.”

The Career Center has a few tips for those planning to attend the Mega Job and Internship Fair.

Logan-Bennett encourages attendees to remember that these employers want to meet and hire TU students. In fact, TU students are in such demand that there is an employer waitlist, even with the larger facility.

“Employers love TU’s hard-working, diverse and talented student population, and to be able to connect with so many of them in a single event is a win-win for everyone,” she says. “The Mega Job & Internship Fair is a popular event and it’s exciting to see so many in the TU community building connections.
