This article is more than 4 years old.

When it comes to your career, the Lone Ranger approach will work against you. Successful professionals know that being connected to people and resources is essential to being influential, valued and mobile in your career. Career inspiration comes from many sources: your mentors, trusted colleagues and advisors – and from the ever-available web.

In this post, I highlight some of the multimedia resources that provide thought-provoking and action-oriented content to help you amp up your success and fulfillment from your work. The tools I highlight are not necessarily the ones with the most views or listens, they’re the ones I think stand out in the overwhelming volume of career advice you’ll find on the information superhighway.

Podcasts

If you’re an auditory learner, or you have a long drive to work and you want to make it more productive, consider these podcasts:

1. How to be Awesome at Your Job. This is a practical podcast focused on giving you actionable insights to increase your career success. The description of the podcast at iTunes says it all: “When you become a better thinker, doer, presenter and leader, more career fun, wins, meaning and money awaits.” Who doesn’t want to buy into that promise?

2. Finding Brave. This podcast is all about finding the courage you need to uncover, clarify and pursue your true passions. The focus is on being braver and acting on what will make you happy and more successful in your career. It helps you align who you are with what you do and how you do it –essential principles of personal branding. Kathy’s empathic style of interviewing is addictive to listen to.

3. Get-It-Done Guy. In this weekly podcast, Stever Robbins – A.K.A. the Get-It-Done Guy – helps you apply proven strategies for increasing your productivity so you can increase your success. Stever is one of the smartest and most approachable people I know, and he shares his knowledge to help his listeners make things happen. If you find your do-list paralyzing or the number of emails in your inbox frustrating, this podcast is for you.

4. The School Of Greatness With Lewis Howes. In this podcast, Lewis Howes answers the question: What makes the greatest people great? And then he helps you apply what you learn to your life. This podcast has received a lot of notoriety and accolades, and with good reason. It’s certainly worth a listen.

5. Happen To Your Career With Scott Anthony Barlow. If you’re not completely happy with your career and you want to do something about it, this podcast is a good place to start. Scott Anthony Barlow not only explores what might be a better fit, but also (and more importantly), he helps you connect work to something bigger, deeper and more meaningful.
